“Thinking something does not make it true. Wanting something does not make it real.”
You wake up with no memory of the last few days. Your friends were killed in an accident that you miraculously survived. Your family has to move to another state to escape the fallout. You meet a mysterious boy who seems to know more about your past than you do. You start seeing things that can’t possibly be there. You are afraid you are losing your mind. Can you keep it together? Mara Dyer is about to find out.
“Today. Tonight. Tomorrow. Forever.” – Noah
I originally picked up the book because of the pretty cover. Then, I read the “letter” from Mara before the book even started and I was hooked. “My name is not Mara Dyer, but my lawyer said to pick something.” Instant intrigue.
“You’re not broken.” – Noah
This was no like ANYTHING I thought it was going to be. Very surprised (in a good way). I liked the way the author kept you intrigued. She gave the reader a little, then made them wait; gave a little more, wait some more. I felt like a mouse waiting for the proverbial cheese nibblet. I DID NOT see the ending coming. I mean, I thought she was just having hallucinations, but HELLO!
My only tiny (teensy weensy, really) niggle was the relationship between Noah and Mara. I liked their relationship more at the beginning of the story before the secret was revealed. After the reveal, something felt off between them; it didn’t fit right. I wonder if it’s something that will be addressed in the next book.
Overall, I was really impressed with the book and couldn’t stop laughing at how sassy Noah and Mara were with one another. Sassy! (I just LOVE that word!) I will definitely be reading The Evolution of Mara Dyer.
